Maybe competitive Obedience or Rally are not quite right for you, but you want your dog to be well behaved in public and be able to visit places. Check out the AKC Family Dog web page. These programs are designed to allow dogs and people to participate in enjoyable activities that are fun while encouraging good manners, socialization and bonding between dog and owner. Some of the programs in this category include all the Canine Good Citizen programs, the AKC Trick dog, AKC Therapy dog, AKC Fit Dog, and the AKC Temperament Test. Newfs love people and as a gentle giant many owners are interested in getting involved with Therapy Dog work. The AKC has a list of different organizations though out the United States that screen dogs and volunteers.
