The official term for dog shows is Conformation. We sometimes think of dog shows as beauty pageants, but they are much more than that. The judge is looking for the best representation of the breed in the ring that day. The judges are making their selections based on the standard of the Newfoundland breed established by the Newfoundland Club of America and the American Kennel Club.

It is very exciting to earn a Championship on your Newfoundland. Some people use Professional Handlers to show their dogs, others do it themselves.

The American Kennel Club website has a wealth of information on how to get started showing your Newfoundland. There are the National Owner Handler series and the 4-6 Month Beginner Puppy Competition to get you started showing your puppy.

Check out the Newfoundland Club of America website for information on showing your Newfoundland. There you will find Newf Conversations that will take you through the Newfoundland breed standard.
